Welcome from the Head of the School of Architecture and Built Environment

Professor Anthony Mills

The School of Architecture and Built Environment offers a rich blend of undergraduate and postgraduate studies, across a broad range of disciplines involved in the built environment. One of four Schools within the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment, the School is located at the world-class Geelong Waterfront Campus.

The School is one of the nations oldest, boasting a long history having its genesis in the Gordon Institute of Technology in 1887 before becoming part of Deakin University in 1977.

Students are supported by staff from diverse backgrounds, bringing a global perspective to learning. The School is focused on providing students with opportunities for cross-disciplinary and practical experiential learning experiences, delivered in a vibrant learning facility.

This year’s publication again explores the intersection of art, design, technology, and science. It showcases the best work produced by our students in an innovative format, designed to intrigue and delight. I hope that all readers are impressed with the creativity of our staff and students, and continue to support the School in the development of future professionals in architecture and the built environment.

The construction management undergraduate course is now known as Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours). This new name more accurately reflects the present content and outcome of Deakin’s construction management program. The Master of Construction Management and Master of Construction Management (Professional) have commenced on-campus enrolment after five years taught online only. Students from over ten countries with a broad range of built environment and civil engineering background immediately took this advantage to study construction management at Geelong Waterfront Campus. The construction management postgraduate courses successfully completed a major course review to reflect on the performance and future of the course. We believe that in the near future Deakin will foster hundreds of construction management postgraduates to be highly sought after globally by a range of employers.
